Swallowfield Welcomes a Crowd

On Thursday, November 1, The Neighborhood House Community Cafe kicked off another season welcoming a tremendous turnout of nearly 90 guests for lunch. Most years the opening Cafe event draws a “smaller” crowd as people around MDI are still settling in to their fall and winter routines. That was far from the case on Thursday, however, as Swallowfield generously sponsored the fun by serving up homemade Chicken Pot Pie, a Garden Salad, coffee and dessert, serving about 90 community members.

In addition to those who were able to sit and enjoy a pleasant lunch, those in a rush were able to take advantage of “takeout service.” In fact, it was one of those “takeout” orders that helped draw a visitor all the way from California. A gentleman on a cross-country adventure in his RV happened to see a group walking down the street with takeout containers and inquired where they had grabbed their lunch. Minutes later he arrived for an unexpected lunch and also got a hearty welcome and quick history lesson on our community from several regular attendees.

Whether you’re from Maine or California, don’t fret if you missed this first edition of the Community Cafe. The next scheduled luncheon is on Thursday, November 15 from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Check our Cafe Page for menu and sponsor information.
