The Neighborhood House Board of Directors held their annual Summer Meeting on Wednesday night at the home of Tad and Lanie Lincoln. More than thirty people gathered, including Board and Committee members, numerous spouses, and Neighborhood House staff members.

On Thursday, July 12, over 300 guests gathered at Abel's Yacht Yard on Somes Sound for the 3rd Annual Bash at the Boatyard. While the event serves as a fundraiser for The Neighborhood House, it also provides an opportunity to gather and celebrate our community in a fun and laid-back atmosphere.

For the third straight year, the party was held on the shore of Somes Sound with idyllic views of the water and western mountains. Mother Nature cooperated as well, providing a perfect summer evening.

The weather could not have cooperated more, and it was literally a perfect evening to be outside. In fact, several dozen like minded individuals and families decided just that and joined us. Many even grabbed a quick takeout dinner from one our in-town eateries and made an evening of it.

Come to The Neighborhood House to learn how your body moves. Explore fundamental elements of movement and how we naturally combined them to move around. This is not a dance class. Participants will explore the "building blocks" from which all movement occurs.

Guaranteed to put a little tap in your toes and some pep in your step, the "Chicks with Sticks" Steel Drum Band is set to take the stage to do it up tight and out of sight. Join The Neighborhood House and Northeast Harbor Library on Thursday, July 19 as we celebrate our year 'round collaborative efforts with this FREE all ages performance.

The Municipal Swimming Pool, located adjacent to Mt. Desert Elementary, will offer public swim times beginning Tuesday, July 3.

The first day of camp is a chance for the kids to get to know one and other and get a feel for the daily routine throughout the summer. For the participants in the Quest Club program, if the first day was indication, they're in store for a fantastic summer. The crew started out with a hike around Jordan Pond, and then returned to the kitchen at The Neighborhood House.

There have been numerous improvement projects happening at The Neighborhood House over the past year. We’re happy to report that throughout the process, we avoided any major disruptions in programs and activities. Our nearly 115-year-old building continues to be a vibrant gathering spot for our community.

Over the past few days you might have noticed something going on around The Neighborhood House. You might have even smelled it... but more on that later.

Our Community Cookout on Memorial Day was another huge success, and only possible because of our terrific sponsors:  S.R. Tracy Paint Shop, Main Street Variety, Thomas W. Wallace Construction, and Northeast Plumbing & Heating.

The public is invited to attend a special forum presented by the Mount Desert Sustainability Committee, the Land & Garden Preserve, Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary, and Acadia National Park. The focus will be invasive species, both on land and aquatic.

RYT® 200 instructor Mike Bouscaren's Divine Play Yoga classes will resume their summer schedule beginning on Tuesday, June 26 from 9am-10am. Starting the following week (July 3) classes will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-10 through the end of August.
