Cookout & Parade Highlight Memorial Day Festivities

Memorial Day is Monday, May 29, and Northeast Harbor will once again serve us the hub of activity on the island with the annual Memorial Day Parade and Community Cookout.

The parade, organized by the Lurvey Wright Post No. 103 of the American Legion, will commence at 10:30am starting at Mt. Desert Elementary School on Joy Rd. The parade will roll down Joy Road, Summit Road, onto Main Street, and make it’s way to the Northeast Harbor Marina. Immediately following the parade, a brief ceremony will be held. at the Joseph T. Musetti Jr. Veterans Memorial Park.

After the Memorial Day observance has wrapped up, The Neighborhood House’s volunteer Board of Directors, along with some very generous business supporters, will be holding the annual Community Cookout on the green adjacent to the ceremonies. The public is welcome to come kick off the unofficial start of summer and gather with the community while enjoying a hamburger or hotdogs. The suggested donation is just $5, and all veterans are invited to enjoy their meal at no charge and with many thanks for their service.
