The Neighborhood House Northeast Harbor, Maine
Located at the end of Main Street in Northeast Harbor, The Neighborhood House has served residents of Mount Desert for nearly a century with numerous recreational, cultural, and educational events and activities. Once you are done exploring our website, feel free to stop by anytime and see for yourself all the exciting happenings at the House! We may not have quite reached the mid-way point of winter, but there are still plenty of exciting events and activities to get us down the homestretch and into spring!

"Lunch Bunch" Program a Hit!
New Program Offering for Adults & Seniors
One of The Neighborhood House's newest program offerings, "The Lunch Bunch" is off to a fast start.
The program offers participants two trips a month to the Hancock County Technical Center, where local culinary students prepare a homemade and affordable meal for the group. In addition to a chance to socialize, it's also a great way to show support for local students. Our next scheduled trip is Wednesday, January 27. We expect the bus to fill, so please call 276-5039 to reserve your spot!
In addition to lunch trips, we hope to add other outings in the future, including trips to area museums, shopping trips, or even just some sight seeing. Please contact us if you have any ideas for an outing.
Anchors Aweigh! A Special Presentation by the
MDI Community Sailing Center
Friday, February 5 at 6pm
In 1981, Phyllis Aschenbrenner and Tom Perkins crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a 29' trimaran, competing in a race from Plymouth, England to Newport, RI, with 125 other vessels. In the first week, the fifth gale took out 20% of the fleet, and Phyllis and Tom wondered if they should turn back, too. Their radio had stopped working, and there was no way they could predict what would happen next-- hitting a whale, destroying the keel, and going three full days without a sun sight (pre-GPS!) Phyllis and Tom will be on hand with a slide-show and discussion about their epic adventure. Organized & Sponsored by the MDI Community Sailing Center. Suggested Donation: $5

The Campfire Coalition is a collaborative effort amongst numerous Island non-profits and churches that provides heating assistance for our fellow community members in need. There will be plenty of tasty food, live music, and a few surprises as well! Mark your calendars for February 16, and be on the lookout for an update on this event within the next week!
The Challenge Continues...
Still Time to Show Your Support & Be a Part of the Success
The Neighborhood House is very excited to announce that the "$50K Community Challenge," has been extended until the end of May.
For each donation made by a year-round MDI resident, no matter the size, an additional $100 will be added to the pledge by a generous supporter of NHH. This means a $25 donation instantly becomes $125, or $50 becomes $150, and so on.
To reach the maximum potential of this exciting opportunity, our challenge is to find a total of 500 local donors so that we can capture the additional $50,000 towards our Capital Campaign. It's also a wonderful chance to show your support for the role the Neighborhood plays within the community, and turn a small or modest contribution into something that will really propel us towards our campaign goal of $3,000,000.
You can donate online or print a pledge form and drop it off at NHH or mail to The Neighborhood House, PO Box 332, Northeast Harbor, ME 04662.
