The Neighborhood House
The Neighborhood House has been many things to many people since its doors opened in 1905. In those hundred-plus years, the Town of Mount Desert has certainly gone through a plethora of change, as too has The Neighborhood House itself. One thing that has remained the same, however, is the mission of The Neighborhood House and the important role it plays within our community.
The vaudeville performances and bowling lanes from years past may have long since been superseded by community celebrations, yoga classes, and the like; but the spirit with which it was founded remains the same. In fact, today, The Neighborhood House offers more programs and events than it has at any other point in its long history.
It's Time to Register for NHH Summer Camp!
Camp Registration Forms Now Available
Our camp season will kick off on Monday, June 30, and run eight weeks thru Friday, August 22nd. Special thanks to the staff of Mt. Desert Elementary School for once again generously allowing us to use their wonderful facility as our "home base" throughout camp.
As always, you can register for individual days, or full weeks, and "Camperships" are available for those who need assistance. We ask that you make any changes to your child's camp schedule prior to our first day of camp, June 30th.
Please stop by or give us a call (207-276-5039) if you would like any further information, or have any questions. We'd by happy to help!

MDI Campfire Coaltion Heating Assistance
Application forms for the MDI Campfire Coalition are now available online. With colder temperatures here, the Campfire Coalition will aid dozens of families on MDI, Swan's Island, and the Cranberry Islands this heating season. Hard copies of the application form are also available at Neighborhood House, Harbor House, and the Sea Coast Mission, as municipal offices, churces, and libraries around the island.
The Campfire Coalition is independent from any addititional state or federal assistance programs, and is much more flexible and responsive to those in need. Please note, however, that if your application is accepted, it can sometimes take several days for fuel to be delivered-- so we urge you to plan ahead and complete the application BEFORE you run out of heat.
The MDI Community Campfire Coalition is a collaborate effort of The Neighborhood House, Harbor House, and Maine Sea Coast Mission.
