FITNESS ROOM
In October of 2002, The Neighborhood House opened the doors to the new Community Fitness Room, responding to a need that was otherwise going unfulfilled in Mount Desert. Thanks to the generosity of year-round and summer residents alike, the facility is stocked with top of the line equipment for everyone to take advantage of. The fitness room fits the needs of those who just want a place to get a workout when the weather outside does not permit, as well as those who prefer the consistency and challenge of working out on the wide array of equipment. To date, approximately 400 individuals registered to use the facility.
The Community Fitness Room is available for use between 5am and 10pm M-F, and 7am to 4pm on weekends. Registration forms are available in the main office of Neighborhood House. In addition to the wonderful equipment, the room also boasts its own certified personal trainer, Penny Curtis. Penny is available to answer any of your fitness questions, as well as provide an orientation with the equipment, or even personal training services.
The addition of the Community Fitness Room has dramatically increased the number of adults served by The Neighborhood House. In addition to the room itself, weight training, stretching, and exercise ball classes are also offered on a periodic basis to help individuals take full advantage of the facility. Additionally, an Active Older Adults class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
